The JH Wrestling team competed in the Lebanon Warrior Invitational tournament against 16 teams this past Saturday. Matthew Moore placed 2nd while Josh Marshall and Thomas placed 4th in their weight classes. Everyone wrestled tough and did not back down to schools much larger than Waynesville. Next up is the Wilmington invitational this Saturday.
The Wrestling team competed at the 22 team Madeira Invitational. Placing for the Spartans were Brandon Bohman 5th, Josh Martin 6th, and Tytus Collins 2nd. The Wrestling team will be at home next Wednesday vs. Monroe and Madison. Wrestling begins at 5pm.
JH Boys Basketball: On Saturday the 7th grade team comfortably defeated Wilmington 43 – 25. Scoring leaders for the Waynesville were Nikolas Ball (12 points) and Hunter Fillmore (10 points). The 8th grade boys dropped a close contest 30-26 to the talented Hurricanes by way of the turnover. Anthony Carmichael lead all scorers with 8 points.
The Spartans returned to league play on Tuesday, hosting the Madison Mohawks. The 7th grade team fell to the Mohawks 50 – 15. Hunter Fillmore and Tanner Fannin led the team in scoring. The 8th grade Spartans returned to the win column with team production of points and exhibited positive possessions that lead to more scoring opportunities. In the 37-31 victory, scoring leaders were Drake Stiles (9), Daniel Butterbaugh (7), Anthony Carmichael (7). The complete team effort in rebounding, steals and effort helped seal this victory.
SWBL competition continued on Thursday as the Spartans traveled to Dixie. The 7th grade Spartans came together for a solid 26 – 8 win over the Greyhounds. Tanner Fannin and Parker Struewing were scoring leaders for the night. The 8th graders went up against a packed-in-the-paint, 2-3 zone and showed great patience on offense which resulted in a low scoring event for the first half, but once we built the lead, the Greyhounds were forced to go man to man defense and they were unable to compete with the athleticism of our Spartans. The final result was a low scoring 32-21 victory.
Next week the middle school boys will travel to Bellbrook on Tuesday, travel to Preble Shawnee on Wednesday, and host Monroe on Thursday.
