Waynesville Tennis Team Takes Second in League

This past Tuesday May 6th the Boys Varsity tennis team traveled to Tom Cloud Park in Huber Heights for the League Tournament. The team fought hard for every win. Of note was a tough 3 set match pitting our number one singles David Jeffries against Preble Shawnee’s number one player. After losing the first set 6-2 Jeffries made a determined comeback winning the next two sets and winning a great match.

SWBL Champions in Softball

The Waynesville Lady Spartan Fastpitch squad is on a roll after wrapping up their first SWBL Buckeye Division Championship in many years. They stand at 18-5 overall and finished 11-1 in league play. As a team the Lady Spartans have a .384 batting average. That leads the league.

Spartan Baseball Playing Well

The Waynesville baseball team is currently 16-3 going into the final two league games of the 2014 season. They are currently 9-1 in the Buckeye Division with games left against Madison and Carlisle. If Waynesville can win both league games they would win the league title outright. The Madison game is Friday afternoon at Madison and the Carlisle game is at Waynesville Tuesday afternoon at 5:00. Senior Wyatt Myers will start Friday night against Madison. The Spartans have five starters hitting over 400, Troy Black, Bryce Linkous, Cameron Combs, Jeremiah Stilwell and Isaiah Bauer.

JV Softball Update

The JV Softball team continued their win streak this week adding 2 more wins to their record, which is now 9-3. The Lady Spartans faced Carlisle at home on Tuesday. Shyann Avella had a great game going 2 for 2 at the plate, scoring 1 run, and getting two put-outs in right field on defense. Ashley Powell also contributed offensively going 1 for 3 at the plate, scoring 2 runs, and hitting in 2 RBIs. Although the game was called in the sixth inning for storms, the Lady Spartans won 10-4. The JV then played Dixie on Thursday.

Boys Varsity Tennis Picks up 8th Win of Season

This week the varsity tennis team won two matches with Northridge and Monroe. This makes the team’s record 8 and 4. As the season draws to a close, I want to acknowledge the role our Junior Varsity team has played in supporting the Varsity team. As varsity players have become injured or sick, two players have stepped in to fill their slot. Kudos to Daniel Mayper and Seth Hawkins.
Our next match is Saturday versus Xenia Christian at 11:00am. Next week we go to League tournament on the 7th at Tom Cloud Park. Play starts at 9:00 am.
